Bay Angels grew out of a pitch competition Roger King organized for the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce in the late 1990s. The event drew so many startups that he had to rent a tent in the parking lot to fit them all. After two years running the competition, he founded Bay Angels and started holding standing-room-only meetings at the Spinnaker Restaurant in Sausalito. One of the first companies to present was OpenTable, which at the time wasn't much more than an idea on the back of a napkin. Bay Angels helped them raise their seed round.
Over 27 years later, Bay Angels has grown into one of Silicon Valley's oldest and most active angel investment groups. Our members are former founders, tech industry veterans, and experienced investors. We've developed a style of angel investing that has been emulated globally, and we collaborate regularly with other angel groups, VCs, and investment banks to co-invest and share deal flow.
Bay Angels is industry agnostic and run by contributing members and investors who care deeply about the startup community. We back strong founders regardless of sector, and our members invest independently or syndicate together on deals. This flexible approach has helped dozens of early-stage companies accelerate through funding, hands-on mentorship, and introductions that open doors.
